Hello Everyone,

Last Week:  I understand that we had a great turnout for Smitty Pignatelli’s appearance last week.  Thank you to those who brought guests.  Hopefully they learned a bit about what we do.  Special thanks to Barbara for leading the meeting.

Boy Scout Dinner:  Tomorrow night from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at St. Peter’s Parish Center.  Steve Agar has tickets.  Please consider purchasing two tickets for the dinner.

Breaking Bread:  The Club will be hosting Breaking Bread next Thursday, May 5th.  Please let Dave Isby know if you are available to help.  Dave’s email is disby@wsbs.com.

Truck Day:  Our next Truck Day meeting is Wednesday, May 4th at 5:00pm at the Brewery.  It is our final push before Truck Day happens on May 22nd!   We will be nailing down all logistics at this meeting.  Hope to see you there!

Scratch Ticket Raffle:  Please double up on your efforts to sell the scratch ticket raffle tickets.  If you need more tickets for sale, please see Mary White, Tony Blair or myself.  As a reminder, tickets are $5 a piece or 5 for $20.

People’s Pantry:  Toilet paper.

Dictionary Project: As part of our Club's participation in Rotary's worldwide literacy initiative, the Club purchased dictionaries/animal gazeteers for the 3rd graders at Muddy Brook Elementary School and atlases for the seventh grade at Monument Valley Middle School. Elizabeth Hamilton presented the dictionaries to seventy children at Muddy Brook, and had the opportunity to share a little about Rotary and what Rotarians do worldwide to help children. (Each book had a Rotary bookplate with a space for the student's name and the websites for GB Rotary and RI.) The atlases will be presented by the 7th grade history teachers to the 100 students at MVMS.

This Time of Year:  We are headed into the busiest time of year for our Club.  The Golf Tournament solicitations are ongoing, raffle ticket sales are underway, scholarship applications have been received and are being reviewed, the Student Assistance Fund is meeting to review our investments, atlases have been distributed to the 7th grade, candidates for RYLA have been selected, Breaking Bread is happening next week, the Boy Scout dinner is this week, the Bike ‘N Fly committee is getting fired up and Truck Day organization is well underway – the list goes on.  I know that you all have very busy lives and numerous commitments, independent of Rotary.  I want to let you know that I truly appreciate your commitment to our Club.  Thank you!

And from the Rotary Foundation:

WORDS FROM A FORMER GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE TEAM MEMBER:  “In Warsaw, Woijeich Sierpinski, a Rotary Club President, took me on a tour that I will never forget.  We visited his parent’s house - where they lived during World War II.  There in the kitchen, under a dusty stack of crates was a secret wood panel in the floor.  Woijeich removed the panel to reveal a tiny room underneath the kitchen floor where his parents hid their neighbors - a Jewish family - during the war.  As I stood speechless, listening to Woijeich describe how they evaded the Nazis, I realized the full value of the Group Study Exchange program.”  Ian Oxman, Group Study Exchange member from California.
